#13 Hollister playlists, hyperpop, and hot takes.
I hope this email finds you hydrated.
Hello! I’m trying something different. Guest features/interviews will come out in a separate email later in the week.
Here is last week’s email, where I interviewed the founders of the brand Sporting Goods.

🎵
This was the first Vampire Weekend song I had ever heard, and I was in middle school at Hollister with my mom (very cool). Does anyone else remember those screens in Hollister stores that would display the song that was playing? If I liked the song that was playing in the store, I would literally type a text message and save it as a draft in my phone and look it up later at home. They eventually put the store playlist on their website. This is literally how I found music before………..Pandora radio hahahahahha.
Cut to 10 years later (omfg?) and they’re still my ~favorite band~ and (embarrassingly) on my body forever!
been into…
new Paloma Wool sweaters 🥰
this video Determined New Yorkers come together to save sick swan's life that made me cry??? Swans can wag their tails???? 🦢

everything from Dreem Street, but especially these chili pepper sweatpants 🌶
this video of a man who calls himself the “Raccoon Whisperer” feeding hotdogs to 25 raccoons (look at the way the raccoons accept the hotdogs with two hands omg) 🦝

the Instagram page of the podcast Feeling Asian for the memes. I finally listened to the podcast yesterday. It’s hosted by NY comedians Youngmi Mayer and Brian Park, and they “unpack their feelings surrounding the Asian-American experience.” 🎧

How Hyperpop, a Small Spotify Playlist, Grew Into a Big Deal NYT
That one 100 gecs meme that’s like “sorry you can change it if you want.”
How Long Gone and the Rise of the Bro-cast Vogue
You just have to imagine they’re being sarcastic the entire time. Some of their guests include musician Rostam, host of Red Scare podcast Dasha Nekrasova, meme queen Patia Borja, and comedian Bowen Yang.
donate here!
Every month I choose an organization to raise funds for. This month I’m collecting donations for P.A.’L.A.N.T.E. (People Against Landlord Abuse and Tenant Exploitation) Harlem, Inc. P.A.’L.A.N.T.E. is a nonprofit based in New York advocating for tenant rights and working to reduce poverty. They also provide free or reduced-rate legal services to those affected by tenant exploitation. Read more about them here.
Venmo me at @elisebang (email me if you prefer a different method) and at the end of every month, I’ll match up to $50.
