Plus tasteful vs. trendy, Breathe India, and Bladee x Charli.
If you’re new here, welcome! I hope you enjoy the weekly(ish) interviews and debriefing of my open tabs. If you haven’t already, check out my podcast incognito tab on Spotify, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you listen to podcasts. It’s the “after hours” of this newsletter 😎
The sun is shining! It feels so good! The warmth feels like finding your friends in a busy park on a Saturday afternoon. But plz protect your skin! If not for wrinkles/aging, but to prevent skin cancer (which many young people get!). Even if you’re not going outside (like if you have a bright window in your home or something) you should be wearing sunscreen. Also, it is a myth that you cannot get tan whilst wearing sunscreen. Ideally, you should be reapplying sunscreen every 2 hours (I know, so annoying, just do it). If you wear makeup, try and get a foundation with SPF in it.
I personally use Elta MD’s UV Clear Broad-Spectrum SPF 46, because it is medical-grade, has a v high SPF, and is oil-free!
Supergoop! Unseen Sunscreen SPF 40 always has raving reviews. I’m going to try this next! Right before I sent this, I had two separate people send me this sunscreen. It’s fate!
When I wear makeup, I really love the Laura Mercier Tinted Moisturizer Natural Skin Perfector Broad Spectrum SPF 30 (oof long name)! If you’re not able to reapply sunscreen because of makeup, definitely try to get something with SPF in it. Or throw on a hat!
The Cicapair™ Tiger Grass Color Correcting Treatment SPF 30 is really great for redness. It’s this green colored cream (green corrects red!) that blends into your skin for light coverage and some SPF.
For my body in the summer, I just get whichever sunscreen at the drug store has the highest SPF, but if anyone has any other suggestions 👀
Please please please please wear sunscreen<3
Been listening to this new. Lol the lyric “Crying in Prada, in the Bahamas.”

"Good taste" versus "on trend" w/ Connie Wang Maybe Baby/Haley Nahman
I’ve linked to Haley Nahman’s newsletter Maybe Baby a million times. Ugh, love her. She’s an incredible writer. Paid subscribers get access to her podcast (like this episode) and her JUICY advice column Dear Baby. In this podcast ep, Haley and Connie Wang (executive editor of Refinery29) talk about the difference between having good taste and being on trend, being defined by your things, what it means to actually take care of yourself, and if we can really vote with our wallets.

things that made me laugh
If you’re new here, hi! Every month I collect donations for a charity/org. Until the end of May, I will be collecting donations for Breathe India. It’s a fundraising effort led by Indian Institutes of Technology alumni seeking “to procure effective distribution of oxygen concentrators to hospitals in Delhi” amidst the oxygen shortage due to their massive COVID surge.
You can read more about Breathe India here.
Venmo me at @elisebang (email me if you prefer a different method) and at the end of every month, I’ll match up to $50. You have until the end of May! Thank you!
I’m recording another episode of my podcast next week. Keep an eye out for episode 2! And make sure to follow me on socials to be a part of the “audience questions” for my guest!
